Ficus exotica
I purchased this Ficus exotica at Wigert's Bonsai Nursery in April 2009. It was approximately 12 inches in height and lacked any taper at the top 2/3 of the tree. I decided almost immediately to reduce the tree to a 6 inch stump and start developing new branching. I have since then done very little wiring but have hedge pruned it frequently to develop ramification. I just recently partially defoliated it and selectively pruned some excess branching. I just put some wire on the first branch. This is not one of my favorite trees but you can definitely see how quickly ficus grow, especially in the sub-tropical climate of Miami. The tree is approximately 8 inches in height.
